Whether we like it or not, our decisions are being directed. That's no necessarily a bad thing if we are aware of it, but not knowing it can lead us to things like Confirmation Bias, that is, confirming ideas to which we are pre-affirmed and leaving out ideas that could offer a new way of looking at things. Your social media outlets are notorious for this by algorithm mechanisms that studies what you like and feeds you those things on a regular basis. The challenge with "echo chamber" knowledge is that innovation and ideas are usually sacrificed in the process. In many ways, great innovation occurs when disparate, contrary or non-related ideas are put together in different and new ways. In the echo chamber, new and innovative greatly diminishes as we lean toward old ideas that we've been pre-affirmed in. This could explain why we live in a world where we have more information, technology and connections than at any other time in human history, but have yet to create a more innovative, empowering and fundamentally better world. The algorithms are designed to re-affirm not necessarily innovate.
This video explains the power of algorithms in more detail..
Here is an explanation based on marketing....
And here is more about being isolated from ideas that don't match up with your ideas....
With a lack in social, political and creative innovation because of the echo chamber effect, those who do offer something new will be seen with an almost mythic view. Innovation and creative thought is at a premium in a world that seeks to conform by way of it's algorithmic tools. Throw your social media algorithms for a loop by clicking on a new website you would not usually visit every day for a month. This will, at the very least, broaden your world view and perhaps your ideas.
