We are living in a time where the stuff of science fiction is now becoming the stuff of science fact. We are living at a time of the Utopian/Dystopian Paradox. Both possibilities exist at the same time, begging for us to make a decision on them. The decision that's pushed in pop culture is a dystopian one, or a "Terminator" world. According to the National Intelligence Council (CIA, FBI, TSA, etc) whatever we decide over the next few years will probably decide the next 100. How can we help forward the Utopian future? There is plenty of discussion in the field on this.
Some experts say there are obvious pitfalls to avoid, but we've got to act quickly...https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/jan/12/elon-musk-ai-artificial-intelligence-pitfalls
Here is an interesting article from a source sent to me that suggests we simply haven't fully developed the Utopian idea because we haven't fully believed it as a possibility. . http://www.onecommunityglobal.org/creating-utopia/
I'm one to believe that once you combine a foundation belief system like Ubuntu (we are all connected) with Quantum Physics, (everything is connected), you have more resources, more participation, more ideas and more of everything to create Utopia than you can under individualism. Watch this video....
And there is the mountainous body of work that says the current leadership model needs to be transformed immediately if there will be any hope of a Utopian future. Diversity in leadership that includes everyone is the key to being able to see what one cultural group may be blind to.....https://www.forbes.com/sites/stevedenning/2012/01/16/why-is-diversity-vital-for-innovation/#3255781a13e2
We have a fairly small window to intend our future and that of our children.

I've shared extensively about Universal Basic Income and how it could possibly help mitigate the challenges that would emerge from massive unemployment created from the rise of automation. I'm leaning even more into this conversation because of two concerns:
1. The window to the impact of automation is getting smaller...in other words, it only be a 2-3 years before we start feeling a dramatic rise in automation displacement.
2. The current administrations in the US and several other countries seem to indicate that they are not open to a discussion on Universal Basic Income.
It becomes important for communities to start having conversations about this subject matter now. Having these kinds of conversations in the eye of the storm can lead to bad decisions made out of fear instead of visionary thinking. As some of you are aware, LEAD Global is moving forward with a privately-funded plan to test a small-scale version of a UBI here in the States as a way of getting ahead of this conversation and answering questions that are particular to the US. This will be a year long venture. If you are interested in participating, please don't hesitate to write me before the end of this week at firstname.lastname@example.org
In the meantime, here are some articles that drill down on perhaps one of the most important conversations of our lifetime....
Finland is moving forward with it's pilot....https://www.theguardian.com/society/2017/feb/19/basic-income-finland-low-wages-fewer-jobs
The early results from the Kenya UBI project is that it is working well and jump starting entrepreneurship in the test townships .http://www.businessinsider.com/kenya-will-see-the-worlds-largest-basic-income-experiment-2016-4
Me and my team are seeking to have a conversation with the people in Ontario, Canada to see where they are in their test..https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/oct/28/universal-basic-income-ontario-poverty-pilot-project-c...
Most people have heard Elon Musk's advocacy for Universal Basic Income, but he's not the only tech giant advocating for it. More than a few have...http://mashable.com/2017/02/09/ebay-founder-universal-basic-income/#c674wOh5TmqF
And here is an interesting written article from a researcher that says how UBI can be a hedge against political extremeism..http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/universal-basic-income_us_586d0ce3e4b0eb58648b5349
Myself and my team will talk about this and other elements of the Fourth Industrial Revolution/World Shift and how you can thrive and succeed in this time of extreme change. It can be hard to understand the Fourth Industrial Revolution/World Shift because how big the subject matter is. I understand. I am providing this video from the World Economic Forum (with special thanks to David Stevens) as a kind of primer on what's happening and why this is an opportunity for us to push the reset button on our community. It is a rare opportunity in the history of humankind to intend a world instead of allowing it to happen to us.
A couple of notes before watching this:
1. People of Color are terribly underrepresented in this video even though I know People of Color in almost every discipline represented. This too must become part of the transformation so that ALL people share in this conversation and in the solution. We need a different minds to create a different mindset.
2. This video is technology heavy, but my belief is that our concentration must be on leveraging the coming available human capital for greater and higher goals of humanity and belief. This is our chance to push the reset button on all of those stubborn human challenges of racism, sexism, economic divide, etc.
That being said, click the video above and take the time to soak in all of the information.
By request, here is a re-posting of the introduction of my book Above And Beyond All That We Know. This book was written a few years ago, before everyone started talking about The Fourth Industrial Revolution/World Shift. My book emphasizes that this change provides an opportunity for us to transform human possibilities.
Here are some events we have coming up....
If you would like to attend any of these events and be with us person to person, write me back directly at email@example.com

President Donald J Trump ran to victory on a platform of bringing jobs back to the US after they were shipped away to other countries for cheaper labor. His administration wants to provide incentives to companies so that they will be more encouraged to bring their manufacturing back to the US. However, a casual glance at the data shows that this approach is misguided at best.
While Globalization has been the favorite scapegoat called up by politicians, it only accounts for a small percentage of jobs moved out of the country to China, Mexico, India or other places. The vast majority of the jobs were taken by automation. Here is an excerpt from an article in Quora last November, 2016:
"BMW, Toyota, Honda, and Mercedes have all moved production to the southern tier of the USA in order to be closer to their major markets in the USA. They realized two important things: 1) robots supply cheaper and better labor than Mexicans or Asians and 2) you don’t necessarily win by selling the low priced product in every category (Germans never do)."
You can read the entire article here...https://www.quora.com/Why-do-Americans-fear-globalization-and-are-they-justified
Here is and excerpt from another article in the New York Times from December 2016
"Donald J. Trump told workers like Ms. Johnson that he would bring back their jobs by clamping down on trade, offshoring and immigration. But economists say the bigger threat to their jobs has been something else: automation.“Over the long haul, clearly automation’s been much more important — it’s not even close,” said Lawrence Katz, an economics professor at Harvard who studies labor and technological change."
You can read the entire article here...https://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/21/upshot/the-long-term-jobs-killer-is-not-china-its-automation.html
And here is another article from the research of Dr. Elliot Morss, an analyst from Johns Hopkins studying the relationship between jobs and Globilization from January 2017...
"As I have written, the vast majority of jobs lost in the US were taken away by automation, not Globilization"

The hot subject is that the robots are coming to take jobs. The truth is, they've been here for some time (since 1978) taking jobs. We have almost 40 years of evidence to show what happens when robots take jobs in a society without a transition plan or a vision forward. The evidence includes:
This process is happening around the world. Brazil, Greece, the UK, France, etc. The reason why this subject is hot now, is because of machine learning. Another level of artificial intelligence through The Internet of Things is about to speed up the advancement of robots taking jobs by over 200%. Even more, the advancements now extend beyond manufacturing jobs. We're now talking about stock brokers, doctors, managers, analysts, lawyers, etc. This is an ongoing process that will continue to change the very landscape of all society and the world. Our job at LEAD Global is to help us re-imagine what this future could be. We see great possibilities with this new future unfolding, but it will take time to socialize this conversation.
THE LEAD GLOBAL DENVER EVENT
We want to remind those of you in Denver, CO USA to register for the Denver event on March 30th, 2017. We tend to avoid conversations we feel are bigger than us. We don't like to seem like we don't know, This may be the reason why many of our leaders are not having a frank discussion with you about The Fourth Industrial Revolution/World Shift. Understandably. A lot of this is fear. Millions of people out of work can be a recipe for social disruption we've never seen before.
If we get in front of the conversation, The Fourth Industrial Revolution/World Shift could be the most empowering moment in the history of humanity. I concur with what Wired Senior Editor Keven Kelly said about robots taking our jobs....
"We need to let robots take over. They will do jobs we have been doing, and do them much better than we can. They will do jobs we can’t do at all. They will do jobs we never imagined even needed to be done. And they will help us discover new jobs for ourselves, new tasks that expand who we are. They will let us focus on becoming more human than we were. Let the robots take the jobs, and let them help us dream up new work that matters."
This is the big push by LEAD Global. We've reasoned that this is too important of a conversation to leave to chance because we were afraid of what we'd lose instead of inspired by what we could gain. To that end, we are doing a series of explanation workshops and new technology innovation labs to socialize this conversation and reveal many of the possibilities this powerful time presents. We especially want to make sure all of our communities hear of this so no one is left out of the opportunity loop.
Make no mistake...this is a time of spectacular opportunity. or dire circumstances. It depends on what we do right now. And yes, there are some things we can do right now. Our organization would love to be a partner to you or your organization as you negotiate these next few year. See what we're doing at www.leadtheshift.com
MORE TREND INFORMATION
Which jobs will be taken by the robots first? I more or less agree with this list. There are actually 17 more jobs you can add. You'd better read it to see if your job is on the list.http://www.shellypalmer.com/2017/02/5-jobs-robots-will-take-first/
There will be a dramatic shift out of the petroleum industry in the next 3 years. Read this report. Then, if you live in the United States, ask yourself the question -- why is my government ramping up efforts to expand oil drilling and production by building new pipelines? They used to call that 'throwing good money after bad'. If you live in the MENA countries, you should be asking -- what is my government doing to ensure a new economy outside of one based on petroleum revenues? https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/feb/02/electric-cars-cheap-solar-power-halt-fossil-fuel-growth-2020
We must keep these conversations local. Yes, the shift is scary on the world scale, but our job is to first focus on our communities. THEN, as the community grows stronger, we can link to other communities around the world. That is what will make our local plans sustainable. http://video.cnbc.com/gallery/?video=3000486753
